Our Story

Established in 2015 by Thomas Ooi, Ghostbird Coffee Company joined the industry at the very start of specialty coffee culture in Malaysia, cementing our place as one of the pioneering players in the scene.  

Fun fact: Thomas’ first F&B venture was The Owls Cafe, hence the name Ghostbird — a direct translation from “burung hantu” (owl) in Malay.  

With a firm belief that everyone deserves better coffee, we strive to make specialty coffee more accessible and enjoyable. We believe that a great cup of coffee goes beyond its taste, it creates moments of connection, inspiration, and comfort.

Homegrown Pride

Homegrown coffee is proudly a mainstay in our offerings. We are grateful to be working with dedicated local producers such as Sabarica and My Liberica — supporting local communities and hopefully playing a part in elevating homegrown specialty coffee to greater heights.

For the Community

In efforts to foster the local coffee scene, we've also been actively initiating and organising community-centric events over the years, including hosting the Malaysia AeroPress Championship since 2023, and founding Good Coffee Festival, an event that unites coffee and camping culture, offering a taste of both comfort and discovery.
