About the coffee
Kirimahiga Factory is located within the Murang’a County, sitting along the slopes of the Aberdare Range. 781 smallholders belonging to the New Kiriti Farmers Co-operative Society in this region contributes coffee cherries to this mill. Once cherries reach the mill, the coffee is washed with water from the Gondo River. The cherries are then pulped and placed in large tanks to soak and ferment overnight, allowing for the breakdown of the exterior mucilage. Finally, the coffee is spread evenly on raised tables to dry in the sun until the targeted moisture content is reached.
